I know it’s been awhile since I last updated, but things have been super busy around here. But without further ado, I’ll continue on with the ocean theme.

I came across this website that has an ocean campaign of educating people not to harm waterlife. The site itself is easy enough for a child to read and have characters such as Ariel from “The Little Mermaid“. There is also games that will help anyone understand what kind of materials will harm ocean life. Take a look at the site with your child and teach them the effects of throwing plastic and other things in the ocean.

Yes…I’m at it again with another site to my network. I started this one in the middle of October. I’m adding new content regularly too. What kind of website is it? It’s a children & parent friendly website that has great findings for both. Check it out. You’ll find lots of links to freebies too!!

If you would like to exchange links with that site, let me know by leaving a comment. Thanks!

Here are 5 ways I came up with so that you can cut back on your everyday water usage.

  1. Less time in Shower - If you usually take half hour to take a shower, try cutting that back to 20 minutes or even 15 minutes. Every little bit helps.
  2. Don’t get a pool - Why waste so much water filling and changing your pool? You can easily go over to the local water park and swim there. There is no need to waste all this water on a luxury that is only hurting our own environment in the end.
  3. Washing dishes - Turn the water off while you scrub the dishes with soap. You don’t need the water running for a long period of time.
  4. No sprinklers - People like to leave their sprinklers on to water their grass and flowers. Most people will actually leave it on longer than necessary. First, check your local weather report. If rain is in the forecast, then there is no need for sprinklers. Natural water is great. If there’s no rain coming, then grab your hose and give your grass/flowers a quick squirt all around. This takes less time and results in less water being used than just keeping your sprinkler on.
  5. Do less loads of laundry - If you just want a t-shirt washed, there’s no need to put it in the washing machine. Just wash it by hand in the sink. Also, there’s not need to do laundry five times a week. Let your laundry basket fill up so you can wash more clothes and do less loads. Doing less loads of laundry saves more water you would of wasted.

I’m not sure how many of you have seen the advertisement for ThinkWater.ca when watching tv. I happened to see it and decided to check it out. I’m glad that I did too. As someone who loves water, I found this website really interesting and I couldn’t agree more that we must not waste water. Who knows, maybe someday in the future we won’t have enough clean water for all living things.

It does make you think about how much water you waste. I know for myself, I could take less time in the shower than I normally do. I like to linger in the shower with the hot water, which of course is a waste. There are other things I’ll waste water doing such as keeping the water running in the sink for a long period of time. I’ve got to start being smart and changing my ways. We all could use water more wisely.

Here are some of the posters they have on their website. You can download these posters on their website and spread the word. These are my favourite that really get the message across in my opinion.

And this one is my favourite because it’s too cute. LOL!
